Bylaw Enforcement Officers play a very important role in today’s society. The knowledge they possess is often underestimated. Also, bylaw officers earn very good money! A nice benefit. So, here’s how to become a bylaw officer:
Everyone is familiar with police officers who enforce criminal laws and are law enforcement professionals. However, there are other types of laws besides criminal laws that are enforced by other law enforcement professionals. One such example is a Bylaw Officer. In Canada, bylaws are created by local governments (cities, towns, etc.) and focus on laws including, but not limited to, property use, parking, traffic control, animal control, business licensing and regulations, weed control, zoning, sign, and noise.
Bylaw Officers are law enforcement personnel who help enforce municipality bylaws. Their responsibilities can vary widely from one municipality to another. In larger cities, they may enforce specific bylaws, while in smaller communities they may be responsible for a myriad of different duties. Bylaw officers can expect to make up to $45 per hour in British Columbia. To become a Bylaw Officer, you must be at least 19 years old or out of school for at least 1 year and complete a recognized bylaw course.
