English as a Second Language – What’s my English level?

IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB), CEFR … what do these mean and how do they compare? More importantly, how do I know what my level is?

Figuring out what your level of English is can be a challenge, especially as different parts of the world use different systems.

The table below should help you place yourself and choose the right course for you.

An important thing to bear in mind is that some exam preparation courses teach students how to answer questions to get maximum marks. Their results may, therefore, not be a true reflection of their real language level.
