Mental Health Services in BC
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. British Columbia offers a wide network of free and confidential services to support students when they need it most.
Mental Health Crisis Services
- BC Crisis Centre: Call or text 9-8-8 for 24/7 crisis support. You can also call 310-6789 (no area code required) for immediate, confidential help.
Mental Health and Addiction Support
- Foundry BC: Youth-focused centres offering counseling, peer support, and wellness resources for ages 12–24.
- BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services: Provides treatment and support for people living with mental health or substance use challenges, with options for in-person, online, and phone consultations.
- Here2Talk: Free 24/7 counseling and support service for all post-secondary students in BC, available by phone, mobile app, or online chat.
Addiction & Overdose Training and Supports
Awareness and prevention are key when it comes to substance use and overdose in BC. Whether you want to learn how to respond in an emergency or need support for yourself or a friend, resources are available.
Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Training
- Take Home Naloxone Program: Provides free naloxone kits and training for anyone at risk of an opioid overdose. Kits are available at most pharmacies and community health clinics. Free Naloxone can also be obtained from our Student Services department on campus.
Addiction Treatment & Recovery
- BC Recovery Programs: Includes detox centers, outpatient and residential treatment, harm reduction programs, peer recovery groups, and counselling supports. Services are offered through hospitals, community organizations, and clinics across the province.
Workplace Safety
Many students work while studying, and it’s important to know your rights and protections on the job.
- WorkSafeBC: Ensures safe workplaces through prevention programs and offers support for injured workers on the job. They also provide compensation services to protect employees financially if accidents occur.
Emergency Services
When emergencies happen, knowing the right contact could save a life.
- BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS): Dial 911 right away if you experience a life-threatening emergency.
- HealthLink BC: Call 8-1-1 any time for non-emergency medical advice from a registered nurse, pharmacist, or dietitian.

Public Health
Public health services in BC are designed to keep communities healthy through education and prevention programs.
- BC Public Health Programs: These include MSP for BC Residents, PharmaCare for BC Residents, immunizations, nutrition advice, maternal and child health programs, and sexual health services.
