Indigenization & Reconciliation
Caring for our students and graduates every step of the way.
Focus College acknowledges with respect that our campuses are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of Indigenous peoples across British Columbia. We recognize the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) as essential guides for our work. At Focus College, reconciliation is not symbolic, it is woven into our mission to prepare students for meaningful futures. Just as we invest in innovation, career pathways, and global opportunities, we commit to reconciliation as a long-term responsibility that shapes how we teach, support, and grow with our students.

Our Commitments
1. Education with Respect
We are ensuring that Indigenous knowledge and worldviews are reflected in our classrooms, programs, and student experiences. This means:
- Embedding Indigenous perspectives into curriculum where relevant to career pathways.
- Supporting faculty to Indigenize teaching practices and student engagement.
- Creating opportunities for domestic and international students to learn about Indigenous communities, history, and contributions in Canada.
2. Student-Centric Support
Focus College is built around student success. For Indigenous learners, this means:
- Access to culturally safe student services, guidance, and mentorship.
- Recognizing Orange Shirt Day and other moments of reflection as part of campus culture.
- Building connections with Elders, Indigenous leaders, and community partners to support students beyond academics.
3. Inclusive Growth
Reconciliation must shape how we operate as a college. We are:
- Increasing Indigenous participation in decision-making and leadership roles.
- Embedding reconciliation into policies, onboarding, and staff training.
- Committing to cultural competency, anti-racism, and trauma-informed practice for employees.
- Strengthening partnerships with Indigenous communities to align education with community needs.
The Focus College Way Forward
Reconciliation is not a project with an end date, it’s an ongoing journey that grows with our students, staff, and communities. Our vision is to build pathways where Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners learn together, thrive together, and graduate prepared to create change in their communities and careers. By uniting innovation, career development, and reconciliation, Focus College is shaping not only skilled graduates, but compassionate and culturally aware leaders for the future.
