
Focus College was proud to co-host an inspiring luncheon, presented in partnership with Shoppers Drug Mart, celebrating Simon Fraser University’s 60th anniversary and the landmark launch of Western Canada’s first new medical school in more than 50 years, SFU’s Next Chapter: The New Medical School and Beyond.
This milestone gathering was co-hosted alongside the Surrey & White Rock Chamber of Commerce, the East Surrey Chamber of Commerce, the Cloverdale BIA, Downtown Surrey BIA, Fleetwood BIA, and Newton BIA, uniting leaders from business, education, and community to champion a new era of health innovation for our region.
During the luncheon, Umar Durrani, Vice President of Focus College, delivered a powerful address highlighting Focus College’s proud history, core values, and unwavering mission to shape a brighter future for students, communities, and British Columbia’s growing workforce. His remarks underscored the essential role education plays in building resilient, future-ready communities.
SFU President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Joy Johnson, along with Dr. David Price, Founding Dean of the new SFU School of Medicine, shared their vision for a province where education, healthcare, and innovation work hand-in-hand to build stronger, healthier communities.
The luncheon spotlighted the essential role post-secondary institutions play in driving research, accelerating workforce development, and preparing the next generation of physicians and healthcare professionals to serve BC’s diverse and rapidly growing population.
